The Bending Space - gigs

Ok, this is Damon speaking. Yes, I'm going to speak in the first person. I can't stand the pretence any longer. You knew it was me all along anyway. Well, The Bending Space is progressing nicely. We've been doing a few gigs. For anyone who follows the facebook you will know that my old colleague Mike Payne joined the band on drums and has really given us some serious power and flexibility. We are playing gigs this month. One tonight at the RMA in Portsmouth and next week at The Birdcage in Southsea. We need more though. This band is sounding good and will only get better. Where's the scene? Where's the people? I'll resist making sweeping, judgmental statements about where they are. Too obvious and uninformed.

I am planning an album for next year. All the material is in place but we need to gig as much as possible to find like minded people and inject a little enthusiasm into what appears to be an ever increasing world of apathy, complacency and indifference. If that's the way you want it, fine, but we ain't gonna sit here and let everything go stale. I know there are lots of people out there too, who would be only too happy to gorge on a little hope and excitement. Sorry, got a little evangelical there but hey I'm excited by the sound of The Bending Space. Gonna keep doing it until I'm bored or realize there's no appropriate opportunities to continue. Then I'll probably become really bitter and blame the music business and people in general for being vacuous, short sighted and simple.....and that just would be right...would it?

New Band Formed

Damon has formed a new band with son Rowan. They will be performing in the near future. The band consists of vocals, guitars, bass, guitar synth, keyboards and drum machine. Damon has written all new material which will be released some time next year under The Bending Space banner. The style of music is being described by the duo as direct, and not farted about with. Damon says: 'I wanted to play live and wanted to return to what I believe is a style of song writing that is emotive and comes naturally to me. I hope people will enjoy what we are doing. It's something we really want to share. Rehearsals are going very well. I think we'll be ready to gig by the summer. We really just want to make people feel they have been pleasantly persuaded to lose control and rock their heads off'.

January 2011

New Video

Damon has made a new video for the song 'Banner' the opening track from the album 'Yard Time'. You can view the video either on these pages or on Youtube or Facebook. If your so inclined spread the word about Damon's music and share with as many people as possible.

New material written

Damon has written new material intended for release this year. Continuing the vibe created in 'Yard Time' he is exploring a direct approach to song writing returning to his punk roots. Live performances are also expected this year.

Damon, Rowan and Elliot first gigs

Damon, Rowan and Elliot started gigging this month and played a full hour set at The Milton Barn, Portsmouth. The next gig is planned for 1st June 2010 at Little Johnny Russells, Southsea.

Album on the back burner

Damon has suspended any further action on the new album and does not plan on any release in the near future. This is largely due to him concentrating on live performances.

FEBRUARY 2010

New Album Finished

Damon has finished recording his new album. Most the mixing and mastering has also been done. The project was executed entirely in his studio Room 15. Again, Damon has written, recorded, mixed and produced the entire work. The realease date is not yet known but rumour has it the album will be available exclusively from this site on download at no charge to the listener.

JANUARY 2010

In Pieces and Then free

Damon is releasing his first solo album 'In Pieces' for free at damonshulman.co.uk. Also, the ensemble piece 'Then' is being similarly released and is available in it's entirety from the downloads page on this site. 'Then' was written with Damon's father Philip Shulman.

New songs at myspace

Damon Shulman has posted new songs on his Myspace. These songs will be part of his new album project intended for release by the end of 2010. The songs will only be available for a limited period so, fans are being encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to listen to what the future holds with respect to the next album.
